The historic building existed during the time of John Brown's raid in 1859. Distances & Directions to Harpers Ferry From Washington, D.C. - 60 miles take Rt. 270 north to Frederick, then Rt. 340 west to Charles Town, after you cross the Potomac and the Shenandoah Rivers, turn right on Union St. (for a 1/4 mile), turn right on Washington St. (this becomes High St. in 1 mile), we are on the left at 168 High St. From Baltimore, MD - 60 miles take Rt. 70 north/west to Frederick, then Rt. 340 west to Charles Town , after you cross the Potomac and the Shenandoah Rivers, turn right on Union St. (for a 1/4 mile), turn right on Washington St. (this becomes High St. in 1 mile), we are on the left at 168 High St. From Frederick, MD - 20 miles take Rt. 340 west to Charles Town, after you cross the Potomac and the Shenandoah Rivers, turn right on Union St. (for a 1/4 mile), turn right on Washington St. (this becomes High St. in 1 mile), we are on the left at 168 High St. From Winchester, VA - 30 miles take Rt. 7 south/east to Berryville, then Rt. 340 east to Frederick, just before the Shenandoah River, turn left on Union St. (for a 1/4 mile), turn right on Washington St. (this becomes High St. in 1 mile), we are on the left at 168 High St. Parking Options There is very limited 2 hour public parking behind the museum. During the week, you can park in the Amtrak station behind the museum, but on the weekend (unless you have a ticket to Chicago) you will be turned away by the Park Service. The best option is to park in the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park parking areas and take the shuttle buses. There is a $6 per car fee (details) collected at the Washington St. entrance and a $6 donation box at all other parking areas.
